Review KILLARNEY 10TH MAY

John Allen recorded his first treble on the third and final evening of the Killarney May Festival when successful aboard Da Sharp Lady, Peruvian Athlete and Tobar Na Bron at the combined odds of 231/1.

The 20-year-old claimer landed the opening mares maiden hurdle (div 1) on the front-running Da Sharp Lady, who was eased down to beat The Irish Whip by 2L.

'That's as quick as she'd want it, and we'll but her out to grass now. She'll stick to hurdles later this season and will go over a longer trip,' said trainer Sean O'Brien.

The Kilworth rider teamed up with his boss Joe Crowley to take both handicap chases on the the eight race card.

Peruvian Athlete landed in front after two out to beat Jamica Plane by an easy 2 1/2L in the 2m1f race, while Tobar Na Bron led approaching the last in the 3m event to beat Smell The Coffee bby 3 1/2L.

Fran Berry drew level with Mick Kinane at the top of the Flat jockeys' table when successful in the 3yo mile handicap aboard Georgina, the first leg of a double for trainer Tom Hogan.

Berry, now on the 14 winner mark for the season, got a lovely run up the inner to lead a furlong out for a length and a half victory over Widely Accepted.

'She's a developing filly and, as she strengthens up later in the year, we may look for a bit of black type,' said the Nenagh trainer.

Hogan continued his good run of late when also sending out No Frontier (Chris Geoghegan) to just edge out Circe's Melody in the final strides of the 36-60 rated mile handicap (div 1).

Robbie Mac prevented Hogan from completing a treble in the concluding 1m6f amateur race as Colman Sweeney's mount headed Rosnagowloge close home for a 1/2L win.

Native House headed Pixie Dust before the last in div 2 of the mares maiden hurdle, and was ridden out by Alan Crowe to score by a length and a half.

Successful trainer Eddie Cawley took out a restricted licence near Dunboyne last year and said, 'She will make a better chaser than a hurdler in time, and could go for a novice hurdle at Galway.'

The jackpot pool of 1,922 euro was carried over to Fairyhouse tomorrow after Sagittate, 14/1 but paid nearly 38/1 on the Tote, recorded a shock win in div 2 of the mile handicap.

Trained on the Curragh by James Leavy and ridden by Declan McDonogh, the Grand Lodge gelding appreciated the good ground when staying on strongly to beat Auburn Lodge by 2L.
