Review KILLARNEY 12TH JUL

Ruby Walsh was once again in scintillating form as he partnered a treble on the second day of the festival meeting at Killarney.

Millanymare kicked off proceedings for the Champion in the second division of the Grand Hotel Killarney Handicap Hurdle, landing a substantial gamble in the process.

Punters piled on the Tony Martin-trained mare (3/1 to 6/4f) and they never had an anxious moment as she cruised to an easy length-and-a-half victory over Ohmissymoss.

Walsh was content to track the leaders before producing the daughter of Old Vic at the last. She wasn't fluent over the final flight but it didn't matter and she won with plenty up her sleeve.

Dalian Dawn was keen to get on with it in the early stages of the Londis Novice Chase and jumped to the front at the third.

The 5/4f was joined by Waterlily four out, but that rival cracked after the next and Walsh's mount stayed on strongly to score by nine lengths.

'He fell in this race last year and his jumping has been a bit disappointing,' said winning trainer David Kiely. 'I was much happier with him today. He will go to Galway for a novice chase.'

Swordplay was 1/2f to complete the treble but only just prevailed in the William K O'Connor Handicap Chase.

Walsh sat behind the leaders before letting Michael O'Brien's gelding move into contention down the straight. He got to the lead after the last but had to work to see off Annshoon by a short-head.

'It was a good performance as he had a lot of weight,' said assistant trainer Dennis Cullen. 'He's in the sales at Doncaster next month but may run at Galway.'

Irish Blade was just collared at Sligo on Sunday and gained quick compensation when taking the first division of the Grand Hotel Killarney Handicap Hurdle.

Littleton Telchar left his recent form well behind to claim the Robin Parke Memorial Handicap by a length-and-a-half under Tadhg O'Shea.

The gelding is trained in Newmarket by Mick Ryan but is currently summering at his owner Dr Paul O'Driscoll's farm in Cork. O'Driscoll, a geologist, is currently in Indonesia and was represented by brother Hugh.

Kieren Fallon partnered his first winner at the track when scoring on Master Of the Chase for Charlie Swan while 18-year-old Brian Carey partnered his first winner on the Flat courtesy of Lake Millstatt in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Claiming Race.
