Review LEOPARDSTOWN 23RD APR

Rhythm'n Roots proved a game winner of the feature PW McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes as Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning combined for a double at Leopardstown.

The Group 3 event turned into a battle between Rhythm'n Roots and Golden Arrow inside the final furlong.

Manning had hit the front a furlong-and-a-half out on the 10/1 shot but was quickly pressed by Golden Arrow. Rhythm'n Roots refused to back down, however, and fought doggedly to prevail by a neck.

'He's a tough hardy horse who goes on any ground,' said Bolger afterwards. 'He gets the trip well - we're not sure where he'll go next.'

The pair had initiated the brace in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden as Finsceal Beo make a promising debut.

The daughter of Mr Greeley was sent to the head of affairs entering the straight, by Manning, and stayed on well to see off the finish of Yario by three-quarters-of-a-length.

Mustameet also proved tough to pass as he claimed the Listed Heritage Stakes.

Declan McDonogh sent the five-year-old into the lead a furlong out and he stayed on strongly to keep Hard Rock City at bay by half a length.

'He banged his head on the stalls in the Gladness and lost two teeth,' revealed trainer Kevin Prendergast afterwards.

'He's a good honest, genuine horse and is versatile - he goes on any ground. We'll try and find a similar contest for him.'

McDonogh completed a double in the concluding Oakfield Handicap when James Leavy's Volcan Magique narrowly held the challenge of Flashy Beau after good battle inside the final furlong.

Artist's Tale looked a colt worth following when making a winning debut in the 3-y-o Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

Dermot Weld's charge was always to the fore under Pat Smullen and went on in the straight, keeping on strongly to beat Rol'over Beethoven by a length-and-a-half.

Raise Again proved a cosy winner of the Maple Handicap for Patrick Prendergast, leading before the furlong pole under Michael Hussey and recording a comfortable length-and-a-half margin over Desert Mile.

Valentina Guest also ran out an impressive winner of the Pinewood Handicap, powering clear in the final two furlongs and holding the late finish of Bush Maiden by a length.
