Review LIMERICK 20th May

Annapurna Sunrise sprung something of a surprise in the feature Live 95FM Mares Hurdle on her jumps debut.

The Eamon Tyrrell-trained four-year-old, whose best previous performance was when third in a poor Flat handicap on the Kempton all-weather, was kept wide for most of the way by Garrett Cotter.

In rear and far from foot-perfect early on, she was bang in contention by the time they approached the second-last and had Hamelsmead Lady for company on the run to the final flight.

There wasn't much in it as they jumped the last obstacle, but Annapurna Sunrise (14-1) soon asserted and ran on well to win by a length and a quarter.

Charlie Swan's experienced Winterwood was sent of a 2-1 shot for the Gotta Have Me A Mighty Mac Maiden Hurdle and put in a professional performance to reward favourite backers.

Never far off the pace, the five-year-old was driven up to challenge at the second-last by David Casey and was one of five in with a shout at that point.

Winterwood ran on best of all, taking the last flight in front and holding Arcadius by a length, with the eyecatching debutant Maturus Ardor in third.

Mr Joe Platinum (12-1) put a series of poor runs behind him to ease to victory in the Supermacs Dooradoyle Maiden Hurdle on his first start for the John Hanlon yard.

Sean McDermott always had the six-year-old in a prominent position behind the leaders and sent him up to join Liscahill Karella in front at the second-last.

The gelding took charge approaching the final flight and was untroubled in winning by an eased-down five and a half lengths.

Denis O'Regan took the lead at the second-last on Tom Cooper's Do You Follow Me (11-2) in the first division of the Supermacs Ennis Road Handicap Hurdle and coasted clear to win by 12 lengths.

Cooper and McDermott then teamed up to take division two as Bridies First (20-1) beat the O'Regan-ridden Milo De Courcey by a length and a quarter.
