Review NAAS 16TH OCT

Taqseem continued on an upward curve when claiming the Derrinstown Stud Birdcatcher Nursery at Naas.

The Kevin Prendergast-trained gelding stuck to his task gamely to land the 70,000 event by two-and-a-half lengths from Set Fire.

Chris Hayes sent his mount to the front a furlong-and-a-half from home and he shook off the challenge of Set Fire inside the final furlong.

The son of Fantastic Light was gelded after finishing placed on his first four starts and it has obviously done the trick, as he has scored twice since.

Prendergast had earlier initiated a double when Andramad opened her account in the Michael Bathe Memorial EBF Fillies Maiden.

The Fasliyev filly gave Declan McDonogh his 50th winner of the year when staying on strongly to lead inside the final furlong and score by a length-and-a-half from Moone Cross.

Ballydoyle hotpot Kamarinskaya (4/6f) had to settle for third. Aidan O'Brien did record a double, however, courtesy of Queen Titi and The Wild Swan.

Queen Titi gained a deserved success in Listed company when claiming the Ali Retza & Mamadi Soudavar EBF Garnet Stakes.

Kieren Fallon got the Sadler's Wells filly up by a length close home after a good tussle with Adaala inside the final furlong.

Fallon was on the wrong one in the opening Tifrums EBF Maiden as newcomer The Wild Swan finished well under Seamus Heffernan to score by two lengths from Patronise.

Essex clung on by the narrowest of margins in the Paddy Power October Handicap as he repelled the challenge of Davorin after a great battle in the final furlong.

There was also a tight finish to the Paddy & Ivy Barrett Memorial Handicap Hurdle as Sirius Storm kept on gamely to repel the late challenge of Oran Climate by a neck.

Noel Meade had a good day at Cork as Mr Nosie and Ballyagran made promising debuts over hurdles.

Mr Nosie was a comfortable two-and-a-half length winner over Mount Grace in the opening Mitchelstown Cheese Maiden Hurdle while Ballyagran also impressed when taking the INH Stallion Owners EBF Novice Hurdle by the same margin.

There was a great finish to the feature event on the card, the Dairygold Heart Handicap Chase, with Davenport Democrat keeping on gamely close home to repel Beechcourt by half a length.
