Review ROSCOMMON 11TH SEP

Elbader, unfortunate to come up against the impressive Siringas last time, got off the mark at the sixth attempt when successful in the European Breeders Fund Maiden at Roscommon yesterday.

Trounced 13 lengths at Gowran Park, Elbader paid Jim Bolger's filly a compliment of sorts when beating Turtleback by three lengths under Pat Smullen, with Turtle Dancer, the 7 to 4 favourite, only fourth.

Representing his father Dermot, Mark Weld said,'I thought it was only a case of turning up as this fellow has run well and had the form. I would say that we will find a winners race for him now'.

Kevin Manning was suspended for one day (September 20) for using his whip with excessive frequency on the Bolger-trained Marefonic, the narrow winner of the Glenamaddy Fillies E.B.F. Maiden.

Marefonic, like Elbader, well beaten in the soft ground at Tralee on her debut, battled well to see off the persistant challenge of newcomer Rachames to win at 5 to 4.

Khairambar, trained by John Oxx, was surprisingly allowed to drift to 3 to 1 before he was made a solid 2 to 1 favourite for the Tully Maiden, and he duly made all the running under Johnny Murtagh to beat Handsome Bop by three lengths.

The Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap was divided and Pat Flynn took both races, a 53 to 1 double shared with Danny Grant.

Ishkasullus had little difficulty in beating outsider Back To Bolgers by three lengths in the opening division, while Pilgrim Star, another beaten at Tralee, bounced back to form in the second leg, winning by four lengths.

The Carberry brothers fought out the finish to the Lough Ree Maiden Hurdle, with 18 year old Philip getting the better of Paul to land the spoils on Keltech Grey, trained by Adrian Mc Guinness.

Michael Cunningham's recent Dundalk winner Moon Shot followed up in the Roscommon Oil Handicap Hurdle, and will run in Listowel if the ground comes up firm. Paul Maloney brought the 4 to 5 favourite home a narrow winner from Smiling Away.

Toolong, the easy to back 11 to 4 favourite, landed the bumper for Jessica Harrington and Peter Fahey.
