Review SLIGO 3RD AUG

Wayne Lordan partnered a double on the Tommy Stack-trained pair Bowerman and Enfield Chase but it was partly due to the absence of Kieren Fallon.

Fallon was unable to fulfill his riding commitments, which included the mount on Enfield Chase, because of a day suspension imposed at Newbury's 'King George' meeting.

However the suspension only became known to HRI after declaration time as James 'Fozzy' Stack, son of the winning trainer, reported the booking of Fallon was accepted on minitel.

Enfield Chase was prominent throughout in the 60-90 rated 6 1/2f handicap and, after asserting off the home bend, held on by half a length from the closing pack headed by Commoya.

'He has plenty of early pace, would prefer the ground a bit faster and may be rated high enough for the winter carnival in Dubai,' said Fozzy Stack.

Lordan, now on the 23 winner mark for the season, initiated his double aboard Bowerman in the 12f maiden when heading market rival Lake Vostock 100 yards from home to score by 3/4L.

Fran Berry narrowed the gap to just two (53-51) behind Pat Smullen in the Flat jockeys' championship when gaining a facile victory on De Roberto in the claimer.

Eddie Lynam's charge was always prominent, and Berry could afford to take things very easy inside the final furlong in beating the Smullen-ridden Sakia by eight lengths.

'He was hitting the post and the bar in maidens so we aimed him a bit lower. He was entitled to win that,' said Lynam.

Ger Lyons is enjoying a profitable season, especially with his two-year-olds, and the Meath trainer saddled his eighth juvenile winner of the campaign with Regaleya.

The well-backed filly (3/1-9/4) was driven out from the furlong pole by Tadhg O'Shea to beat Misskinta by a length in the six furlongs auction maiden.

'She wants a bit of juice in the ground and will go for a nursery next,' reported Lyons.

Curragh trainer Vivian Kennedy enjoyed a much needed change of luck when Nora Chrissie led inside the final quarter mile under Michael Hussey to beat Half Pass by 3/4L in the 12f handicap.

In contrast, Michael Halford's Curragh yard is 'on fire' at present and Petite Bois added to his tally when she sprinted clear in the closing stages of the 36-60 rated 6 1/2f handicap under John Murtagh.

Pelagias Star took the concluding apprentice handicap in the hands of leading apprentice Chris Hayes, taking it up before the turn into the straight to beat the staying on Shaunas Vision by 1L.
