Review WEXFORD 13TH JUL

Waterville-born teenager Jamie Moriarty had a day to remember at Wexford on Saturday when he recorded his first success in the plate courtesy of odds-on shot Madalyar, trained by his boss John Oxx.

The seventeen-year-old apprentice seized the initiative from the outset on the well supported market leader owned by HH Aga Khan and duly made every yard a winning one to come home with three lengths to spare over Dr Knock.

'He's a hard working lad and is always running around the yard helping out whenever he can and I'm delighted he rode his first winner today,' said assistant Jim O'Neill, who nominated 'another handicap' for the gelded son of Darshaan.

Pat Cosgrave initiated a 75 1/2 / 1 brace on Le-Monde in the Mount Leinster Handicap when he forced the 16/1 chance past Etak inside the final furlong to land the spoils for David Wachman and Clane property developer Pat Fadden.

Later Cosgrave was again seen to good effect when scoring on Pat Martin's Breffni Flyer in the Tuskar House Hotel Handicap. 'He's been crying out for this ground (good-firm) and we'll think about a hurdle race at Galway next,' said Martin, after his charge outgunned a gallant By Charlie Allen who was returning to action after 769 days off the track.

Martin Treacy and his nephew Tommy teamed up to win the 1st division of the Talbot Hotel Beginners Chase with newcomer Deep King while Ger Cusack's Cluain Rua arrived to lead at the last to give Conor O'Dwyer his third winner at the two-day meeting.

Nineteen-year-old Andrew McNamara, who is studying mathematics in Limerick College, notched up his first win in the saddle aboard La Captive, trained by his father and namesake, in 2m QR Maiden.
