Melodic Rendezvouz is reported in good shape ahead of his seasonal reappearance in Wincanton's Elite Hurdle this weekend.

The Jeremy Scott-trained gelding, second to Champagne Fever in the 2012 Champion Bumper, won three of his four starts over hurdles last term but missed intended targets at Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown due to minor setbacks.

Scott reports the seven-year-old to be working well ahead of Saturday's Grade Two event and is hoping to find out just how good his charge is this term.

The trainer told sportinglife.com: "Melodic Rendezvous is working nicely and is as fit as we can get him at home.

"We will be starting him in the Elite Hurdle this weekend and feel as though we have some unfinished business over hurdles with him following last season.

"If all goes well there are races like the Fighting Fifth (Newcastle) and Gerry Feilden (Newbury) to consider.

"If we discover he's not going to be up to Champion Hurdle class then we will switch him to fences as he'll make a smashing Arkle horse.

"He needed his first run last season and is likely to come on for it again, but he's really well and I'm looking forward to it."
