Meshaheer keeps up record

The David Loder juvenile bandwagon kept up it`s momentum at Newmarket today with Meshaheer gaining some consolation for a desperately unlucky defeat at Royal Ascot when running out a decisive winner of the Group Three TNT July Stakes.

A son of Nureyev is now a 25-1 chance for the 2002 Sagitta 2000 Guineas with Ladbrokes and Chandler while the Tote go 20-1.

He quickened nicely for Frankie Dettori to lead over a furlong out, and kept on up the hill to beat Scottish Rover by one and a quarter lengths.

Meshaheer looked unlucky when having to be switched twice in running in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and Loder, saddling his 19th two-year-old winner from 26 runners, reflected: 'That was just what we wanted to put the Coventry experience behind him.

'Sheikh Hamdan would like to run him in the Gimcrack at York so we will see how he is - then possibly the Dewhurst or the Middle Park.'

And looking ahead to next season, he went on: 'He will get a mile on his head, he is relaxed, has plenty of speed and it will suit him down to the ground 2000 (Guineas).'

Maron said of Scottish River: 'You don`t know what to expect when they make this jump up in class and we are delighted to finish second. It is a shame he is not in the Gimcrack as that would be the obvious next race for him but thefind something.'

Roger Charlton warmed up for his tilt at the Darley July Cup by scoring with his first runner of the meeting.

The trainer, whose Cork And Orrery Stakes winner Harmonic Way is set to tackle tomorrow`s Group One sprint, stepped the progressive Arrive up in class for the Listed Bahrain Trophy and had his faith amply rewarded.

His filly cruised up to challenge under Richard Hughes a quarter of a mile from home in the 15-furlong event and strode out to score by four lengths from Fair Question, to make it three wins from four career starts.

'I was really pleased with that,' the locally-based trainer said.

'She is very progressive. She haswon a Listed race so now we`ll be looking at Group races and we have got lot of options.'

Alphaeus landed a gamble for Sir Mark Prescott in the Bonusprint Stakes.

He had been out of action for nine months yet was backed from a morning 9-1 into 5-1 for the Stg#40,000 mile-and-a-quarter handicap.

And the three-year-old always looked like rewarding his backers, making all under George Duffield -who was riding at his minimum weight - and scoring by a comfortable two lengths from Askham.
