Messi scores for Flynn in Tipperary nightcap Ciara Flynn produced 25/1 outsider Ms Messi from off the pace to land the concluding GAIN The Advantage Series (Ladies) Handicap at Tipperary. Having her fifth start for trainer Paul Flynn, father of the winning jockey, the Make Believe filly registered a first success in good style. Dropped out in rear, Flynn rode a patient waiting race, gradually edging into contention as the race developed in the straight. Coming through to lead over 150 yards out, Ms Messi went on to win by two-and-a-quarter lengths for owners Dermot Murphy and Miss Eileen Farrelly. The winner is a full-sister to eight-time scorer Asgard's Captain, who was bred by Eileen Farrelly. Paul Flynn said: "Dermot and Eileen are family friends all my life and while I was based in England as a jockey, the first pony I ever rode was Dermot's pony called Mandy. They lived beside us, my father was great friends and my mother still goes over to them. "I wanted to give up with the mare as she is a bit of a madam, but the owners persevered. A lady's touch obviously worked today and it's great that Ciara got back in the saddle. It's her first win for a while, as her old horse Power Drive was sold." Ciara Flynn previously rode winners as a Flat apprentice. Additional reporting by Thomas Weekes.
