Mill Could Bypass Nunthorpe Date

Celtic Mill could side-step the VC Bet Nunthorpe Stakes at York next week as trainer David Barker is worried that his star sprinter may not be mentally ready for such a tough assignment.

The seven-year-old, winner of the Group Two Temple Stakes in May, has not raced since suffering a nasty fall at Sandown on Coral-Eclipse day nearly six weeks ago in which champion jockey Frankie Dettori broke his left collarbone.

'He´s fine but I don´t know if he´s mentally ready for a race like the Nunthorpe after his crashing fall,' said Barker.

'We might step back to a Group Three to make things less difficult for him and there is one for him at Newbury (the Dubai International Airport World Trophy) in the middle of September.

'He seems OK and he´s working all right but we won´t make a decision about York until late.

'He´d want the ground on the fast side so that part of it should be right.'
