Millar and Kashchei a winning combination Carl Millar earned the plaudits after steering home Kaschei (7/1) in the Kildress Plumbing Rated Novice Hurdle at Downpatrick without his irons on the run-in. The six-year-old gelding closed on the leaders at the final flight, but Millar emerged from it without his irons. He had a willing partner, though, as the pair hit the front inside the final furlong and stayed on well to score by a healthy seven-and-a-half-lengths. The places were taken by Harpy Eagle (9/2) and Mr Master Mac (10/3f) in second and third respectively. Cian Collins said: "To be honest, I thought this was a much-better race than the last day when was second. We would have taken being placed. "He's a very unassuming horse, plenty of ability there, maybe doesn't always show it. He showed it there today. "This is his track and I could maybe see him as an Ulster National horse next year, something like that. He's a chaser, but his jumping is very disappointing. We will work on that for the winter. I'd like to see him jump better. "I'd say you couldn't go far enough for him, he's a real stayer and the good gallop today suited. "Jack Lord rides him out every day at home and he does a great job with him, so delighted to get him to win. "We'll look after him now, I think we will give him a breather now." On Millar keeping the partnership intact on the run-in, he added: "It got very tight. When I saw him jump the last so close, I was confident enough he would come up the hill. "Carl gave him a great ride. He's with me now every day, so great to get a winner with him again."
