Minnaloushe supplemented for Eclipse

Black Minnaloushe was today handed the chance to continue in the hoofprints of 'iron horse' Giant`s Causeway when he was supplemented to the Coral Eurobet Eclipse Stakes.

He was the sole horse added to the field for next Saturday`s Sandown showpiece - at a cost of Stg£20,000 - by the noon deadline.

The Aidan O`Brien-trained colt has already emulated his former stable-mate`s win in the St James`s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and will now bid to repeat the prolific Group One winner`s successful follow-up in the Eclipse.

His addition to the line-up takes total prize money for the mile-and-a-quarter contest to Stg£345,000.

Possible rivals include the last two Vodafone Derby thirds Beat Hollow and Tobougg, whose owners Godolphin also have 2000 world champion Fantastic Light and St James`s Palace Stakes runner-up Noverre in the race.

Clerk of the course Andrew Cooper was delighted at the news. 'It is very pleasing to have a classic winner supplemented for the Coral Eurobet Eclipse and we are looking forward to a great race,' he said.

Cooper forecast going on the firm side of good for the first big clash of the generations over middle-distances this season.

'The going is good to firm and we have been watering,' he said. 'The first chance of any appreciable rain is on Tuesday, when showers are possible, and we will keep watering through the weekend to hold the ground at good to firm.

'The plan is to provide a strip of fresh ground on Saturday for the last seven furlongs of the race.'
