Laugh A Minute ran out a decisive winner of the Limerick race at Greenmount Park this evening to record a first win since joining Ado McGuinness.
The Mayson gelding had cost owners Shamrock Thoroughbreds £100,000 at the horses in training sales last October and was second on his first outing for the yard at Dundalk in February.
He stepped forward today, tracking front-runner Geological before hitting the front a furlong-and-a-half from home.
The Mayson gelding soon put daylight between him and his rivals and galloped on strongly in the closing stages, under Ronan Whelan, to record a two-and-a-half length win over 20/1 shot Rhydwyn
Stephen Thorne, assistant trainer and manager of Shamrock Thoroughbreds, said afterwards:-
"We left him right short going to Dundalk and he was only ready to start that night.
“He is more of a grass horse and has done nothing but thrive. He was a very hot headed and difficult horse to manage in Newmarket and the environment of the beach at home and our training regime has seemed to work wonders with him.
"He was proper keen in the UK but was manageable today so he is definitely learning to switch off a little bit.
"The plan was to go for one of the big handicaps on Derby weekend but I think we'll put him away now and go straight for the Scurry Handicap, as long as he doesn't get too much weight.
"He has been placed in Listed and Group races before and we'll try and go down that route. He is a very nice horse to have."
