Monaghan looking forward to Navan racing festival Local jockey Caragh Monaghan is eagerly anticipating the upcoming Navan Racing Festival, highlighting the event's growing significance for the local community and racing scene in County Meath. Monaghan Excited for Growing Navan Festival Local jockey Caragh Monaghan has been looking forward to the upcoming Navan Racing Festival. Speaking to journalist Dave Keena, she said: "It's a great festival, look, it's on my doorstep as well. The past three or four years, it's definitely getting bigger and it's growing. There are more people talking about it now around Navan and around County Meath in general." She continued: "A few of my friends have been asking me if I am riding at it. Hopefully I will have a few next weekend, for Ian (Donoghue) or whoever." Monaghan added: "It's brilliant to see it grow, especially for the local economy as well, because it's a good boost to have for Navan and with Fairyhouse only two weeks later, it just gets people talking about racing more and encourages people to go to Fairyhouse straight after Navan." GAA and Racing Background With regard to the big cross over between GAA and racing in County Meath, she added: "Look, I was very lucky, in 2021 I was on the Meath senior ladies team that won the first senior All-Ireland and I played up with Meath since under-12, so I have a couple of Leinster medals as well."
