Moon Derby Blow Sir Michael Stoute has ruled Spanish Moon out of the Vodafone Derby at Epsom. The El Prado colt was as low as 16-1 with Ladbrokes for the June 2 showpiece after winning a Newmarket maiden on his only start last October. However, in a statement to PA Sport, Stoute confirmed: 'Spanish Moon has had a training setback which will prevent him from having a Derby preparation.'Spanish Moon, who is owned by Khalid Abdullah, is also entered in the Budweiser Irish Derby at the Curragh on July 1.Abdullah's racing manager Lord Grimthorpe does expect the colt to be back in action later in the year.He added: 'Spanish Moon was found to be lame behind and he'll be off for probably about 12 weeks before he's cantering again.'It is a setback, but fortunately it is not career-threatening.'(C) PA Sport
