Moonlight proves Magical for punters in Down Royal opener Magical Moonlight showed good speed throughout to land a gamble in the opening Harvertech Maiden at Down Royal. The Johnny Murtagh-trained filly was available at 14/1 overnight and was backed down at all rates going off the 9/2 second favourite. Rory Mulligan’s mount was smartly away from stalls and made all in this five-furlong event, asserting over a furlong out and keeping on strongly inside the final 150 yards. The daughter of Invincible Army had five and a half lengths to spare over 4/7 favourite Tradewinds, with Shafters Legacy half a length further back in third. Mulligan said, “I was quietly confident coming today - she's a tough little filly, she tries hard. "I knew when I jumped and got her up in front, she would stay going well. "She gave me a great ride today, travelled down the hill really well and quickened up nicely. "I ride her plenty at home and, as I said, she is very genuine and hardy. She's a small little filly, but she does her best. "It is yielding ground, it is loose and they are taking the top off it." Quotes by Michael Graham
