The Paul Gilligan-trained Moonshine Girl (12/1) was, in the end, a comprehensive winner of the Colm Quinn BMW Handicap over three miles for rider Jody Townend.

The seven-year-old daughter of Sea Moon travelled in mid-division in the three-mile contest as the heavily-backed Shotgun Jack made the running.. Moonshine Girl moved into second two out and took over at the last to trounce the weakening front-runner by 13 lengths.

Gilligan said: "Jody gets on so well with this mare, and she just goes for her. We were cautious of the ground today, but she is all heart and is a great mare to have. The two gel together.

"Years ago, we were lucky enough to have had a winner with AP (McCoy) riding our filly, who bolted in at Fontwell. I told him afterwards that we might give her a break, but he said, 'Are you mad?!' and to keep running. We might do that with this one too."
