Moore On His Guard

Stan Moore refuses to be overawed by a strong line-up for Saturday's UAE Derby and believes the nine-furlong distance will help his unheralded Traffic Guard.

The three-year-old has recorded two second-placed finishes at Nad Al Sheba this year, both times losing out to the impressive Asiatic Boy, who reopposes.

Despite the Godolphin filly Folk and her stablemates Day Pass and Eu Tambem, the latter partnered by Frankie Dettori, also being among those vying for the 1.2million first prize, Uplands trainer Moore believes his colt can spring a surprise, especially with a middle draw.

'It's a very strong field, it's a great race but we've been second to the favourite twice,' he said.

'There's going to be a lot of pace, a lot of pace from the outside.

'I think Folk will probably go out there, I don't think Asiatic Boy will have it all his own way in front which he has done of late.

'Our gameplan will probably be just to sit in a little bit on the pace, fifth or something like that, and hopefully get there in the end. The extra distance should suit my horse.'
