Moore Shines As Gretto Strikes

Allegretto benefited from a stunning Ryan Moore ride to win the Group One Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp.

Moore produced the Cheveley Park Stud-owned mare late on the scene to land her first success at the highest level.

Leading inside the final 50 yards, Sir Michael Stoute's charge denied the Andre Fabre-trained Macleya by a short neck, with Ponte Tresa third.

The Richard Fahey-trained Anna Pavlova finished a creditable sixth in the hands of Paul Hanagan, while the third British raider, Mark Johnston's Soapy Danger, was well beaten after having every chance in the straight.

Moore said: 'We went a good pace, which was useful as she needs to stretch out and likes to pass horses.

'She idled a bit once she got her nose in front and has just done enough.

'She needed good ground today and is very tough.

'She'd already won three Group Twos so she deserved this.'
