Irish trained runners have strong chances of adding to the two winners on the opening day of the Royal meeting at Ascot today.

Eight Irish horses will line up in the opening race, The Group 3 Jersey Stakes, and the Dermot Weld trained Mustajeeb is proving popular in the early betting exchanges. Mustajeeb is vying for favouritism at 5/1 following his third place finish in the Irish 2000 Guineas behind Kingman.

Pat Smullen, who rides Mustajeeb, has strong claims in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes aboard the Eddie Lynam trained Anthem Alexander. The wide margin Tipperary maiden winner is at the head of the market alongside American challenger Spanish Pipedream. The two fillies will race from adjoining stalls (12 and 13) in the centre of a 22 strong field.

The feature race, The Group 1 Prince Of Wales Stakes, has more Irish interest with Aidan O'Brien's Magician and Jim Bolger's Parish Hall taking on the top class mare Treve.

The Willie McCreery trained Fiesolana is attracting each-way support at 16/1 for the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes and confidence for her bodes well for fellow Irish raider Purr Along which beat her by half a length at the Curragh last month and is also in today's line up.

Eddie Lynam, already on the board with Sole Power yesterday, saddles one of the favourites for the Sandringham Handicap at 5.35pm when he runs last month's Navan winner Odisseia.
