Morris keen on step up in trip for Lieutenant Mouse Morris admits options are limited for First Lieutenant after he regained the winning thread at Cork on Sunday. The dual Grade One-winning hurdler made a fine start to life over fences with a debut victory in that sphere at Tipperary, but then suffered a shock reverse at Cork. He was back in the groove at the same track, and while Morris is eyeing a trip to Leopardstown at Christmas for his star performer, he is unsure where he will run in the meantime. "He's grand this morning and I thought he did it well on the day," said Morris. "I'll have to have a good look, but there aren't that many races for him between now and Christmas - the options are a bit limited. "He'll have an entry in the Drinmore at Fairyhouse, but we'll see. "I'd really like to step him up to three miles but there are hardly any races in Ireland for three-mile horses. "There is the three-mile race in Leopardstown at Christmas, but there isn't much before that. "He's had the three runs already this season, but I just want to get plenty of experience to him. "His jumping is improving all the time and I was happy with how he jumped the last yesterday."
