Mubtaker Bypasses Newmarket

Connections of Mubtaker have opted to bypass Newmarket tomorrow and wait for either Chester next week or York later this month.

The evergreen nine-year-old was taken out of the StanJamesUK.com Jockey Club Stakes at the final declaration stage.

He made a successful seasonal debut when beating Munsef and Maraahel, who gave owner Hamdan Al Maktoum a clean sweep in the old John Porter Stakes at Newbury two weeks ago.

'He waits for the Ormonde or the Yorkshire Cup,' said trainer Marcus Tregoning.

However, the owner will nonetheless be double-handed in Sunday's Group Two race through the John Dunlop-trained Munsef and Bandari from Mark Johnston's stable.

Richard Hills has opted to partner Munsef and he told Teletext: 'I believe Munsef is on the upgrade. He does everything right and ran a cracker in the John Porter behind Mubtaker.

'I can see him progressing through the year and hopefully he will be competing in the top races in the autumn. He is the ride I am most looking forward to this weekend.'

A field of seven is headed by Andre Fabre's Breeders' Cup Turf hero Shirocco and Sir Michael Stoute's lightly-raced Hard Top. Enforcer, Gulf and Self Defense complete the line-up.
