Rag Tatter got off the mark at the 23rd attempt at Dundalk this evening when landing the Crowne Plaza Race & Stay Handicap (div 2), scoring a first win from a new yard for his trainer Tony Mulholland.

The four year old son of Kheleyf initially contested his first handicap, when trained by Kevin Ryan, from a rating of 75 but today, under jockey Nathan Crosse, made use of his much lower 52 mark when holding off the challenge of Confident Kid close home, for a neck win.

Afterwards Mulholland, who rode Henry Mann to win the 1990 Coral Hurdle at Cheltenham, said “that’s my first winner since moving yards recently to just outside Portadown in County Armagh. I have seven horses in at the moment.”

He added “he (Rag Tatter) just got a bit tired in the last half-furlong last week. He’s a wee bit of a funny horse and things just need to go his way but he was handicapped to beat the favourite Tyrconnell (unplaced).

“He has ability and things worked out well for him today. Hopefully that will give him a bit of confidence that he’s got his head in front.”
