The Willie Mullins trained Didero Vallis justified 8/13 favouritism under Ruby Walsh to win the opening Profile Systems Maiden Hurdle at Downpatrick today, but not before giving his supporters some concern.

Picked up for €130,000 by Mullins’ scout Harold Kirk at Arqana Sales last November, the son of Poliglote today seemed to get outpaced in the dip but finished with a rattle to eventually score a four lengths win over Great Tango.

Didero Vallis had previously finished third on each of his previous four French Bumper starts (including at Grade 2 level) and after today’s win, Walsh stated “he got there and it was a good performance first time.

“He lacked a bit of experience but stayed well and it's always good when they are doing their best work at the end."
