Mullins withdraws appeal

Champion amateur Patrick Mullins has withdrawn his appeal against the severity of a six day whip ban he picked up at Naas last Wednesday.

The case was due to be heard by the Appeals and Referrals Committee at the Turf Club this afternoon.

Mullins was hit with a six day suspension for using his whip with excessive frequency and not giving his mount Ceol Rua a chance to respond.

Ceol Rua was just beaten a head by Sugar Bullet in a tremendous finish to the bumper, and the placings were only confirmed following a stewards enquiry into possible interference in the final furlong.

Mullins' previous record was taken into account, and he is also instructed to attend RACE for one day's tuition on the use of the whip.
