Murtagh strikes at ripon

Peter Harris persuaded Johnny Murtagh to make his first visit to Ripon today and his advice was spot on as he landed the featured Ripon Champion Two-Year-Old Trophy on Resplendent Cee.

Resplendent Cee took up the running at half way and he stuck to his task in good style to pass the post with one and three quarter lengths to spare over Million Percent.

Harris bought the winner for 30,000gns at the Tattersalls October Sales and trains him for Roy Salter. The former said: 'I think he will go for the Mill Reef at Newbury next.

'He is fast enough for five furlongs but he gets six well. I think those which stayed on the near side thought there was a lot of speed in those drawn low.'

Murtagh attended the Mick Kinane inquiry as a witness at the Curragh this morning before flying across to Leeds and then being driven on to Ripon, and he expected to be back home around 8. 30 tonight.

He said: 'Peter said I should come over so he must have thought the horse had a good chance and he did it well. It is a lovely track with a long straight so the best horse should always win - and there is a big enthusiastic crowd too.

'I left the inquiry at about 10.30 this morning so the travel arrangements went well and now it is back home where I will be riding at Tralee for the rest of the week.'
