Murtagh wins Wokingham as Fanshawe doubles up

Johnny Murtagh guided Deacon Blues to victory in the Wokingham Stakes to give James Fanshawe a big sprint double on the final day of Royal Ascot.

The Newmarket handler saddled Society Rock to land the Golden Jubilee Stakes, and followed up in the next race.

Deacon Blues (15-2) travelled kindly during the fiercely competitive six-furlong handicap and quickened up well inside the final furlong.

Waffle came at him hard as the post loomed large, but Deacon Blues held on by a neck, completing a 220-1 brace for his trainer.

Pastoral Player and Anne Of Kiev filled the minor places, but Hoof It, the 9-2 favourite, was disappointing.
