Illtakehimmyself gained a deserved breakthrough victory when landing the first division of the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle at Killarney for Eric McNamara.

The Jet Away gelding had been placed in his last three outings and went to post 7/2 joint-favourite in the two-and-a-half mile contest.

Calum Hogan produced his mount to challenge after the second-last and he hit the lead before the final flight to secure a length-and-a-quarter success over Cornaroya Rocco

“He deserved that. He’s been placed in his last three runs and gone up 7lb,” said McNamara.

“It was important to try and win with him before he crept up another few pounds.

“He’s not blessed with speed but he’s a real tough, genuine, honest, horse.

“He’ll go chasing sooner rather than later, he jumps a fence very well.

“He loves a bit of good ground, so he’ll run away for the summer now.”
