NEWBURY FORCED TO ABANDON

Racing at Newbury tomorrow was called off due to waterlogging this morning.

But hopes remain high that the track`s Tote Gold Trophy card on Saturday will beat the weather.

Clerk of the course Mark Kershaw said: 'The track dried out nicely yesterday but we had a third of an inch of rain overnight and the hurdles course is very wet in places.

'We will have a look at 11.00am tomorrow for Saturday.

'But there isn`t much more rain forecast until Saturday afternoon - and the track didn`t take long to dry out yesterday - so that is very encouraging.'

Not only does Saturday`s card feature the Stg£100,000 Tote Gold Trophy but also the reappearance of runaway King George VI Chase winner First Gold in the Aon Chase.
