Wee Willie Nail gained reward for his consistency when claiming the opening Joe Bollard Memorial Maiden Hurdle at Gowran Park this afternoon.

The Yeats gelding had been placed on three previous occasions and went to post 10/11 favourite today to get his head in front.

Davy Russell tracked the front-running Single Edition in the two-miler before sending his mount to the front turning for home.

Wee Willie Nail galloped on well in the closing stages to post a four-length win over Catena Zapata

“He had plenty of experience and we said we'd let him roll along there. He got a lead which was grand and the line came in time,” said Elliott.

“He's probably one that could win in the north of England or something. He is what he is and he'll be okay. He'll jump a fence in time too.”
