Nannina Fails Drugs Test

John Gosden's Nannina could be stripped of the Group One Coronation Stakes she won at Royal Ascot after failing a routine drugs test.

Gosden has confirmed that the filly may have had small traces of a ?run of the mill' drug in her system when winning the showpiece event.

However, plans to run the three-year-old in Saturday's Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood are not thought to be affected.

'She has failed a test,' confirmed Gosden.

'What has happened is that we are halfway through the process right now. She was on a well-established routine of veterinary treatment prior to the race.

'It was nothing particularly out of the ordinary at all, it was run of the mill.

'At the moment it appears that a tiny trace of that may have remained in her system but that is on one test and there now has to be another one done.

'It is something that is routinely used around the country and I am not allowed to go into any details at this stage.

'It is commonly used and it is very strange that, with the long withdrawal period, it has stayed in her.

'It is a little bit of a mystery right now. It is certainly nothing nefarious and it is a pretty mundane thing but it is still obviously particularly worrying.'

A second test will now be carried out at a lab nominated by the Horseracing Regulatory Authority's counter analysis advisory committee.

'We still plan to run her at Goodwood,' Gosden told The Sportsman.

'It wasn't a thing that would enhance her performance on the day. But that test has shown the possibility that there was a little trace of the drug in her and, to that extent, we will have to see on the second test.

'Everything was done by the book and better. Everyone, including the vet, is completely confused by it.'

If the second test proves positive, Mick Channon's Flashy Wings will be awarded the Coronation Stakes.
