Nephew provides O'Connell with double

The John Brassil trained 10yo The Bosses Nephew took the 2m 6f Veterans Handicap Chase providing his rider Eddie O'Connell with a double on the day.

Just six of the twelve horses who set out managed to complete the course with the testing conditions at Limerick taking there toll.

The Bosses Nephew had four win to his name before today with his last win coming in a handicap chase at Naas in February of 2010.

Having shown little on seven racecourse starts in the early months of 2011 he then took a break and was last since finishing third in a point-to-point at Boulta in November behind Rebel Chief.

Sent off at 8/1 today the son of Flemensfirth was always prominent and jumped well. He hit the front before the third last and went clear.

His advantage was reduced before the straight as Doctor Woodfield tried to chase him down but he went on again before the second last, staying on well to score by a comfortable five lengths.

Doctor Woodfield plugged on to take second under Robbie Colgan at 20/1 while the gambled on (20/1 into 9/1 on course) Wedontknow was a further two and a half lengths back in third.
