New distances for Irish Racing New distances come into effect for Irish Racing starting at Laytown next Thursday, which bring us into line with the UK. There are extra quarter length distances above two lengths (e.g. 2 1/4L) and the main change is full distance measurements up to 99 lengths. Previously anything above 30 lengths was called a distance but now it will be anything above 99 lengths that will be given as a distance by the judge.
