Newmarket Misses The Rain - So Far The heavy rain which has hit large parts of the country, including heavy bursts as close to Newmarket as Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds, had all but missed Newmarket by 5.00pm today. Michael Prosser, Clerk of the Course, said: 'Light drizzle today has registered just 0.6mm on the rain gauge and though the local forecasters are still predicting at least some rain between now and 9pm tonight, remarkably it now seems that we have probably missed the worst of it, even though they´ve had several millimetres just a few miles down the road from here. 'The going remains Good-to-Soft and the forecasters have reiterated that once we get through the evening, we are due to be dry over the next three days with only a small chance of some drizzle on Saturday morning.'With the heavy morning dews that we get at this time of year, even if we don´t get much rain tonight, I would still anticipate that the ground will remain on the easy side of Good for Saturday. We are now eagerly awaiting tomorrow´s declarations for Champions´ Day with the promise of one of the best day´s racing that Newmarket has seen for many years.'
