Nicholls Captures York Sprint

Trinculo struck for David Nicholls in the opening totesport.com Handicap over five furlongs at York.

The 16-1 shot, ridden by the trainer's son Adrian, led a furlong out and ran on gamely in the soft ground.

He held the late run of Orientor by three-quarters of a length with early leader Enchantment half-a-length away in third.

'He's a lovely old horse and he tries ? that's the main thing about him,' the jockey told Channel 4 Racing.

'It's great to get a winner here. It's dead ground but he handles it.'

The trainer added: 'He looks like a stallion and the old lad's a credit to himself.

'I got him off Nick Littmoden. He said we'd have a whole lot of fun from him but I never thought we'd get a win like this out of him though.

'He's a clear-winded horse and you just give him a work two days before. He's a grand horse and he's a happy horse.'
