No Excuse Needed this time No Excuse Needed duly landed the odds in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood today to gain compensation for his fine effort when second in the Champagne Lanson Sussex Stakes over the same course and distance earlier this month.Maktoum Al Maktoum`s colt, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, had had no luck in running when fifth on his seasonal debut in the St James`s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and was only denied by a late swoop from Noverre on his latest start. But it all came right at the third attempt this term as the 8-11 favourite swept to victory in this Group Two event by a length and a half from Tamburlaine (7-2) with Late Night Out (20-1) a further neck away third.Nicobar took the field along at a merry pace from Tamburlaine and Late Night Out as Kieren Fallon held No Excuse Needed up in the rear. After Nicobar folded two furlongs from home, Richard Hughes sent Tamburlaine to the front but he was soon joined and passed by No Excuse Needed, who came with a perfectly-timed run on the outside. His turn of foot quickly settled the issue and he ran out a smooth winner.Joe Mercer, representing the winning owner, said: 'He`s a very relaxed horse and Kieren Fallon got him switched off, possibly too switched off.'We will very possibly look at a mile and a quarter next year but the general idea is to go for the QE II at Ascot next month.'
