No Show From Gatsby In Belmont Dermot Weld was out of luck with his latest American runner as The Grey Gatsby was well beaten behind Beach Patrol in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont Park. The six-year-old has appeared a shadow of his former self since moving to Weld from Kevin Ryan and the trip to America was the latest method to try and spark him back to life. Ridden by John Velezquez, the 2014 French Derby and Irish Champion Stakes winner never threatened to get involved, beaten over 13 lengths behind Chad Brown's star, who won the Arlington Million on his previous start. Just as he had done at Arlington, Beach Patrol beat Fanciful Angel, who last time out was trained by Marco Botti but has stayed in the States to be trained by Brown as well.
