Paddy Power Chase-placed Fitzhenry is again to be aimed at some of the big staying handicap chases in the coming months.

Trained by Paul Nolan, the JP McManus-owned gelding was a progressive type last term, winning twice in handicap chases, and has this season filled third place in the Porterstown Chase at Fairyhouse and in the Paddy Power at Leopardstown over Christmas.

Nolan reports the seven-year-old to have come out of the race well, and said “Fitzhenry is in good form and will be entered in the Thyestes and the two-mile-five handicap chase at the Dublin Racing Festival.

“He ran a cracker to finish third in the Paddy Power, and we were very pleased with the run — Paddy Kennedy gave him a lovely ride.

“We were concerned about the ground, but he seemed to handle it well — and he jumped well.

“He was beaten nine lengths, having already won a few handicap chases, and you’d always wonder when you are beaten that far ‘will he be able to win a good race?’.

“But I hope he can pick up a big one — he is maturing more and is strengthening more.”
