Norse Dancer set for Epsom Derby

Norse Dancer looks likely to be supplemented for next week?s Vodafone Derby after he was taken out of the French equivalent today.

The David Elsworth-trained colt, who was third in the Sagitta 2000 Guineas, is now set to be added to the Epsom field on Monday at a cost of #90,000.

Ron Sheather, racing manager to owner Jeff Smith, said: 'He will probably go for the Epsom Derby now. All sorts of thing have been considered but everybody wants to win the Derby when it comes down to it and Jeff would like to give it a go.'

Norse Dancer would have faced top French-trained colt Dalakhani if he had headed for the Prix du Jockey-Club at Chantilly on Sunday and Sheather added: 'If we had gone to France and won we would have probably thought afterwards we should have gone to Epsom.'

Norse Dancer could reoppose his Newmarket conqueror Refuse To Bend a week on Saturday and Sheather is hoping he can reverse form with Dermot Weld’s colt over the extra half mile.

'He?s a nice horse and the one that just beat us at Newmarket is a fairly short-priced favourite and we?ve only got a little bit to find with him,' he said.

'No-one is certain to get the mile and a half and you?d want to give it a go.

'Nothing is written in stone as yet, but it looks most likely he will go for the English Derby.'

Norse Dancer?s planned switch means there will be no British-trained runner in the French Derby.
