Noverre stands ground in Marois

A total of 13 acceptors stood their ground today for the Group One Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville on Sunday.

The four withdrawals at the overnight stage were Sir Michael Stoute`s No Excuse Needed, Aidan O`Brien`s pair, Bach and Hawkeye, and the Brian Meehan-trained King`s Ironbridge.

O`Brien still has the option of being able to run Bonnard.

Godolphin`s Sussex Stakes hero Noverre is one of four remaining British-trained acceptors left in the race.

The others are Munir (Barry Hills), Tamburlaine (Richard Hannon) and Olden Times (John Dunlop).

Banks Hill, impressive winner of the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, spearheads a domestic line-up which may yet include fellow Group One winners, Chichicastenango, Vahorimix and Amonita.

Completing the home team are Kouroun and Lethals Lady.

Proudwings, winner of the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket, is one of two potential German representatives, along with Royal Dragon.

On the same card, the Group Two Prix Kergorlay could attract as many as seven British runners.

The septet include Mark Johnston`s Ascot Gold Cup winner Royal Rebel, and Godolphin`s Yorkshire Cup victor, Marienbard.

Johnston has also left in Yavana`s Pace.

Paul Cole (Courteous and Yorkshire) and John Dunlop (Samsaam and Romantic Affair) are also double handed prior to the confirmation stage.

The three British entries in the Listed Prix du Haras de la Huderie are Gold Guest (Mick Channon), Red Briar (Michael Bell) and Shahm (John Gosden).
