O`Brien leaves quartet in Juddmonte

Aidan O`Brien is responsible for four of the 14 who stood their ground today for the Juddmonte International Stakes at York on Tuesday.

The Ballydoyle trainer has left Black Minnaloushe, Bach, Darwin and Bonnard in the Group One race.

Sir Michael Stoute is represented by Medicean and No Excuse Needed.

No firm decision has yet been made on whether No Excuse Needed will line up.

Joe Mercer, racing manager for owner Maktoum Al Maktoum, said he could not yet confirm whether the horse would take his chance.

'I don`t know. It depends on the Sheikh. I haven`t spoken to him yet. The Celebration Mile at Goodwood is his principal race,' said Mercer.

James Fanshawe is likely to run Grandera.

He has also left the colt in the Great Voltigeur Stakes but, after scanning the acceptors, is tilting towards the Group One showpiece instead.

He said today: 'My intention is to go for the Juddmonte, although we have got the option of the Great Voltigeur as well.

'I hope the rains keep away. He likes good ground, or faster.

'He has done everything right and I am looking forward to next week.'

There are 17 confirmations for the Group Two Great Voltigeur Stakes, also on Tuesday.

They include the Barry Hills-trained Storming Home and five O`Brien runners.
