O`Brien relies on Milan in France

Aidan O`Brien will rely on Milan in the French Derby at Chantilly on Sunday following the defection of El Bueno at today`s declaration.

Michael Kinane will take the ride on the strong-finishing Prix Lupin third in a field of 14 for the Prix du Jockey-Club.

Godolphin`s Musha Merr, the mount of Jamie Spencer, heads a three-strong British challenge.

John Gosden runs Sydenham with Richard Hughes in the saddle while Michael Hills takes the ride on the James Fanshawe-trained Grandera to complete the trio.

Sydenham runs in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed so because of his involvement with Godolphin, Gosden`s charge will be coupled in the betting with Musha Merr

Likely favourite Maille Pistol (Jean-Rene Dubosc) spearheads a powerful home defence in the wake of impressive front-running displays in the Prix Greffulhe and the Prix Hocquart.

The winners of the two main Jockey-Club preps, Chichicastenango (Prix Lupin) and Anabaa Blue (Prix Noailles) also run. Alain Junk and Christophe Soumillon are the respective jockeys.

Completing the line up are Sensible, Okawango, Sagacity, Foundation Spirit, Art Contemporain, Doctorate and the supplemented Marichal.

Sensible, from a yard that has won this Group One contest three times, defends a big home reputation. Thierry Jarnet`s mount is unbeaten in both starts this term.

Pascal Bary had hoped to run Sensible in the Prix Lupin but a fever put paid to those plans. The colt was an easy Listed winner at Longchamp in April.

Okawango (Grand Criterium) and Sagacity (Criterium de Saint-Cloud) were both Group One winning juveniles.

However, both have been beaten in their two outings this term. Olivier Doleuze and Olivier Peslier are the riders.

Doctorate (Dominique Boeuf) and Art Contemporain (Gerald Mosse), a stablemate of Maille Pistol, are both emerging types.

Completing the line up are Roger Litt`s supplemented Marichal (Philippe Sogorb) and Francois Doumen`s Foundation Spirit (Davy Bonilla).

O`Brien runs King Of Tara (Kinane) in the Prix Jean Prat on the same card.

Olden Times, John Dunlop`s Feilden Stakes winner, goes on a recovery mission after his Dante Stakes failure behind Dilshaan. Pat Eddery rides.

Denon, the Prix Fontainebleau winner and French 2000 Guineas fourth, looks the toughest of the three domestic challengers.
