Westerner Point is set to run at Fairyhouse next week before connections dream of Aintree.

Eoghan O’Grady’s 10-year-old got round on his only previous try at the National fences when eighth to Blaklion in the Becher Chase in 2017, and showed his well-being when winning the Tim Duggan Memorial Handicap Chase at Limerick over Christmas for a second time.

How Westerner Point gets on at Fairyhouse (in a 2m7f rated chase) next week will determine future plans, for either the Randox Health Grand National or the Topham Chase.

“He’s doing very well, he’s a grand horse. He’s going to be entered for a conditions chase in Fairyhouse next week,” said O’Grady, who is based in Mallow.

“The Grand National is on our minds. We’ll see how Fairyhouse goes and make a plan after that.

“We have mentioned the Topham as well, but we’ll have to see how next Wednesday goes.”
