Obliterator will head straight for the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas on Saturday week after Ger Lyons decided against running him in this afternoon's Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown.

Lyons declared the promising colt on good ground but 17 millimetres of overnight rain turned the going to yielding to soft, conditions which would not suit the Oratorio colt.

Having won on his only start as a juvenile, Obliterator finished second to Derby fancy True Story at Newmarket in the Feilden Stakes on his only other outing.

Lyons now plans to give him a piece of work after racing and will be hoping the ground is suitable to allow him to take his chance in the Classic on May 24.

The trainer tweeted: "Well that was easy! Ground update from Leopardstown is now yielding to soft. Obliterator won't run & it's fingers x for a dry Irish 2000gns!"
