Olwenbrook may have been 40/1 to win Division 1 of the two mile maiden hurdle in Roscommon, but after getting the job done her trainer nominated Galway as a likely destination.

Andrew Lynch drove the seven-year-old daughter of Alderbrook into the lead at the last and she from there she prevailed by a length and a quarter.

In her four previous appearances, her best finish had been sixth in a Ballinrobe bumper last July. Her comeback run this season saw her come home 10th of 16 in a Kilbeggan maiden hurdle last month, beaten over 78 lengths.

Trainer Adrian Murray said: “It was a bit unexpected given the way they’ve been running. She’s been working well at home. Mine have been running terrible for the last 12 months. One or two of them were running well enough recently so we were getting hopeful. They seem to have turned the corner. I wouldn’t mind going to Galway with her.”

Murray snapped a losing streak of 43 runners with this winner.

Another 40/1 shot, Don’t Budge Me for Brian Hamilton and Robbie Power, grabbed second. The 5/4 favourite, Overcall who was prominent throughout was three parts of a length adrift in third.
