On His Own heads Thyestes weights Successful in the race in 2012 and again last year, On His Own heads the weights for the €100,000 Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase at Gowran Park on Thursday, January 22nd. Trained by Willie Mullins, On His Own went on to finish a short-head second to Lord Windermere in last season's Cheltenham Gold Cup and on his most recent start chased home Road To Riches in the Grade 1 Lexus Chase at Leopardstown at Christmas. The 11-year-old is one of four entries from the local yard of the Champion trainer. Set to carry top-weight of 12st, he could be joined by stable companions Djakadam (10st 9lbs), Dogora (10st 2lbs) and Abbey Lane (9st 10lbs). Mullins has won the Goffs Thyestes on five occasions in total and prior to the victories of On His Own, he scored with Micko's Dream in 2000, Hedgehunter (2004) and Homer Wells (2007). Foxrock (10st 13lbs) finished second in the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown and he could represent trainer Ted Walsh who sent out Roc De Prince, his first winner as a trainer, to win in 1991. Tony Martin won with Dun Doire in 2006 and he looks set to rely on Gallant Oscar who was born in that very year. Gallant Oscar has done well over hurdles since he last ran over fences and would certainly be a leading fancy under 9st 11lbs. Jadanli won the race for trainer Paul Gilligan in 2013 and he has been allotted 9st 2lbs this time around. Other winning Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase trainers with possible runners include Jim Dreaper who won with both The Godfather in 1974 and Brown Lad two years later. He has entered Goonyella (9st 11lbs) while Charlie Swan, successful with This Is Serious in 2002, has Make A Track (10st 6lbs). Eddie Scally, General Manager, Gowran Park Racecourse said: "Looking at the entries, the 2015 Goffs Thyestes Chase could be one of the most exciting to date with the cream of racing involved and the potential for history to be made if our local trainer Willie Mullins notches up a sixth win in the race. Complementing the Goffs Thyestes Chase will be the John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle, a €40,000 race which has been won in recent years by Zaidpour and Gold Cup hero War of Attrition. "Separate to the racing, we've a great line-up of entertainment over the course of the day, including the Most Stylish Lady competition. I invite everyone to come and mark a new century of racing at Gowran Park at this year's Goffs Thyestes."
