One Big Boum makes all for Moore and Fenton The addition of blinkers and a change to front-running tactics proved just the trick as One Big Boum ran out a convincing winner of the Ardmulchan Handicap Hurdle at Navan. The Philip Fenton-trained gelding made all in this 2m4f event but was pressed early in the straight. The 9/1 chance was still travelling best approaching the final flight and kept on strongly on the run-in under Niall Moore to score by eight and a half lengths. The 7/4 favourite Teds Corner kept on into second in the closing stages with Low Style finding no extra from the last, a further three-quarters of a length back in third. Fenton said, “First-time blinkers made a big help because we felt he just about was doing enough, that's all, before we put the blinkers on him. "He seems to be able to cope with soft to heavy and he stretched away. "He's big enough to jump a fence, so I'm sure we will end up over fences maybe sooner rather than later. His jumping was immaculate today, so we are very pleased. "He ran at Christmas, so I'm sure it will be three to four weeks before we will ask him to go again. This place can test a horse, so you wouldn't want to go back too soon. "He certainly wouldn't go on summer ground, so he will be out again before the season comes to an end." Quotes by Michael Graham
