November Handicap hero Open Eagle is likely to make his hurdling debut for Willie Mullins in the middle of January.

The son of Montjeu was a very easy winner of the traditional end-of-season highlight at Doncaster last month for David O'Meara and was subsequently snapped up by the Supreme Horse Racing Club and sent to the champion trainer.

Open Eagle is a best-priced 33-1 for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March and connections are looking forward to getting his jumping career up and running after the New Year.

Supreme racing manager Steve Massey said: "Open Eagle is our most expensive purchase to date and he is already showing Willie plenty at home.

"The plan with him is to start him off around mid-January and with a rating of 104 on the Flat, you would like to think he could get into the top tier as a novice over hurdles.

"We can't wait to get going with him and we still have a small amount of shares available."
